I'm currently rereading Leviathan Falls for the third time and it's been delightful. The book is the seventh and last book in the Expanse series, written by S.A. Corey - the nom de plume of collaborators Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck. I read the book twice in a row when it came out last year, but haven't wanted to pick it back up until now. If you haven't read the series and like science fiction, I highly recommend it. Book one (Leviathan Wakes - see what they did there?) is a combination of sci-fi and noir detective novel that sounds incongruous but when experienced, makes perfect sense. The series expands the universe from our solar system to our galaxy, and does so thoroughly and beautifully. I'm about half of the way done with this third reread, and I'm savoring every moment. With that, I'll share a few of the quotes I love the most from this book.

"Every generation had its apocalypse. If they made humans stop falling in love and having babies, celebrating and dreaming and living out the time they had, they'd have stopped a long time before."

"This was the life he'd dreamed of during his imprisonment. This was what he thought he'd lost forever: suffering a little insomnia while his lover of decades rested at his side."

""I absolutely believe that people are more good on balance than bad," he said. "All the wars and all of the cruelty and all of the violence. I'm not looking away from any of that, and I still think there's something beautiful about being what we are. History is soaked in blood. The future probably will be too. But for every atrocity, there's a thousand small kindnesses that no one noticed. A hundred people who spent their lives loving and caring for each other. A few moments of real grace.""

Happy Monday to you - I hope that your day is "more good on balance than bad," and that you are comforted by the small routines of your loved ones around you and the complex, but lovely, world we live in.
