A random, all-over-the-place, Amazon haul (decor, home, kids, organization)
As an Amazon affiliate, I may earn a small commission if you make a qualifying purchase after clicking on one of the links below (at no additional cost to you). Thank you for helping keep my tiny blog dreams alive!
There is a very good chance I've been spending too much time on Pinterest (follow me, here!), because when you look at this most recent Amazon haul, it's truly a random smattering of items related to all my favorite pin categories (home decor! kids art projects! home organization!). However, I applaud myself for purchasing items with a clear utility, because I've unpacked and sorted these items and I'm pleased with each and every one of them.
The kids have been back to school for three weeks now, and in that time two colds have cycled through our household, with the last sick person standing being myself, as per usual. Work and motherhood don't stop for illness, unfortunately, so I've been feeling quite a bit of stress this past week. When life feels chaotic, I tend to focus in on one thing that I can control, and tidying the house, or taking care of a small item or two on my to-do list, helps me feel that "everything is going to be ok" energy. (When I was in grad school, my roommate once came home to me deep-cleaning the kitchen and asked, "Procrastinating studying for the finance exam?" She knew.)
To that end, here is the list of items in my latest Amazon purchase, including what I think of them now that they've arrived, and where they ended up in my home.
1. I bought this white serving tray thinking it would fit nicely on our kitchen island, but the kitchen stonework is brown-toned, so the gray/white/nickel didn't fit. I placed the tray on our sideboard to hold a plant, some coasters, loose napkins (still looking for an aesthetic holder for larger napkins - let me know if you have a lead on one) and the hourglass we use to compel our children (occasionally effectively) to stay at the table during meals.
2. Dryer sheets are not super exciting or aesthetic, but I have a kiddo with sensitive skin and these dryer sheets are unscented, hypoallergenic, AND 97% plant based.
3. I just found out that humidifier "fish" are a thing, thanks to a Buzzfeed article. We have one humidifier that we use religiously since we have two young children, meaning someone in our household is always sick. Our humidifier isn't too tough to clean but there are always nooks and crannies I assume bacteria is lurking in. Now a cute fish helps keep the humidifier water clean - adorable.
4. These washable Crayola paints are something I'm always repurchasing. I have no trouble washing them off clothes or the kitchen table, which is a plus because my 2-year old likes to paint herself.
5. Glitter. Halloween. Foam. Stickers. Need I say more? I do? Ok - my kids love these, so I bought a giant bag of them on Amazon. I don't think I realized quite how giant the bag was when I made the purchase, but it will last for many Halloweens to come.
6. I purchased these bamboo cabinet and shelf organizers because I could use some additional space dividers in my cabinets, and these are some of the smaller options available, which works for the space I had in mind. You do have to put them together yourself, so be sure to have a screwdriver available when they arrive.
7. In line with #4 when I mention that my children (and thus, my entire family) are always sick, I bought this rose gold tissue box cover to go in my daughter's room since it matches her rose gold lamp.
This was the highlight of my Wednesday, which says quite a bit about the state I'm in at the moment. I'm not procrastinating a final like I used to do in grad school, but I greatly enjoyed focusing in on our home and family in small ways today. I hope you find similar small moments of peace. Big hugs to you. <3
